Support for Ukraine

Stockton on Tees Borough Council and Middlesbrough Council teamed up with Moneywise Credit Union to help Ukrainians fleeing their homeland for the safety of our borough.

Stockton on Tees Borough Council and Middlesbrough Council teamed up with Moneywise Credit Union to help Ukrainians fleeing their homeland for the safety of our borough.

Stockton Council turned to Moneywise through their Tees Credit Union branch, in Stockton, to help ensure that Ukrainian guests were able to quickly access funds from Central Government to help them settle in the boroughs.

Middlesbrough Council also turned to Moneywise through their South Tees Community Bank branch in Middlesbrough.

Phil Goad, Chair of Moneywise, said: “Everyone is asking what we can do to help those residents fleeing the terrible war in their own country, our Board of Directors asked that very same question. When we were approached by both Stockton and Middlesbrough Council’s to see if we could help, we pulled out all the stops to make sure that we could.”

Tees Credit Union and South Tees Community Bank were able to create accounts which could be opened immediately, and the funds would get to the people who need it the most. They can then go on to have their benefits paid into the Credit Union and Community Bank too.”

“We are very happy to have been able to find a way to ensure our Ukrainian guests have access to the funds made available to them by central government through the South Tees Community Bank. Not only does this ensure people have access to money, but it also ensures they develop safe financial independence in their new host country.” Jolande Mace, Strategic Cohesion and Migration Manager, Middlesbrough Council
