Vacancy –  Community Development Worker

Location

Working across the North East of England, with permanent branches in Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees and Wallsend. The role requires regular travel to support community engagement, employer partnerships, schools and outreach activities.

Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer

Salary: £24,454 per annum, rising to £26,147 following successful completion of a three-month probationary period.

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work to support community events.

Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to help grow Moneywise Credit Union throughout the North East by increasing community awareness, membership and access to ethical financial services.

Working alongside our existing Community Development Worker, you will build relationships with community organisations, schools, employers and local partners, deliver financial education, promote payroll savings and support initiatives that improve financial wellbeing and reduce financial exclusion.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement

  • Represent Moneywise Credit Union at community events, schools, family hubs, libraries and outreach locations.
  • Build relationships with community organisations, charities, local authorities and partner agencies.
  • Promote the benefits of credit union membership and financial inclusion.
  • Identify new partnership and outreach opportunities.

Membership & Business Development

  • Increase membership and promote savings, loans and other Moneywise services.
  • Support members with opening accounts and understanding available products.
  • Develop employer partnerships and promote payroll savings schemes.
  • Deliver presentations to employers and community groups.

Financial Education

  • Deliver financial education sessions in schools, colleges, workplaces and community settings.
  • Promote the Financial Health Programme and Peer2Peer Financial Education Programme.
  • Encourage positive saving habits and improve financial capability across all age groups.

Partnerships & Community Development

  • Develop partnerships with local authorities, housing associations, NHS organisations, employers, schools, colleges, charities and faith groups.
  • Support the development of new outreach locations and collection points.
  • Assist with community events, promotional campaigns and marketing initiatives.

Administration

  • Maintain accurate records and produce activity reports.
  • Monitor performance against agreed targets and KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, FCA requirements and safeguarding policies.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working within communities, education, housing, charities, public services or customer-facing roles.
  • Passion for improving financial wellbeing and reducing financial exclusion.
  • Experience delivering presentations, workshops or training.
  • Excellent organisational and IT skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (or the ability to travel regularly across the North East).

Desirable

  • Experience within a credit union or financial services.
  • Knowledge of financial inclusion and community finance.
  • Experience delivering financial education.
  • Experience developing employer partnerships or managing grant-funded projects.
  • Understanding of FCA-regulated financial services.
